In just one week I will be sailing in the Shetland Race 2017 – the 31st Race held. The Pantaenius Shetland Race is a regatta from Bergen to Lerwick and back again.
The regatta is organized by Hordaland Sail circuit and the Lerwick Boating Club in Shetland.
I will be sailing with Morten (cousin) and a couple of his friends, it is the first time I would have completed this race, but it will be Morten’s eight or ninth, so as he is the skipper, I think we are in good hands
There are 41 Yachts entered into the race and it is looking like it will be a great race, even if it is not as glamorous as the Americas Cup.
My personal planning for this week of sailing has not been as smooth as I would have liked. It turns out i needed a new sailing bag that could cope with a flight as well as the normal car boot to yacht travel it normally does. However what does a 90 litre bag actually look like (Dimensions) and how much does it store? Online purchasing is a bit of a pain some days…
But I am all packed now and other than a few items that are being used this weekend on a scout camp, I am ready to go. As Morten has mentioned that as well as Crew I have also been assigned the role of “Media Man” – so I will also be taking a number of electrical items with me. Mavic Pro (Drone), Canon DSLR and a small video camera – that should cover most of the needs for media. To make sure we do not run out of power as those all drink energy and that we will have at least 4 phones i will also be bringing my Solar Charger which can charge 3 items at once and is water proof.
- The race starts at 10:00 Norwegian time on the 21st June.
